Book Review: Vamps
VAMPS
By: Nancy A. Collins

The Story:

When the sun goes down, New York's true elite all head to one place: Bathory Academy, where the young ladies of the finest vampire families are trained in shapeshifting and luring their prey. Bathory's reigning queen, Lilith Todd, is the daughter of a powerful vampire businessman, and she knows exactly what she wants from life. She wants to look beautiful for eternity and party till the sun comes up with her gorgeous boyfriend, Jules. And she doesn't want any New Blood upstarts standing in her way. Enter Cally Monture, an unexpected threat from a trash zip code. When their first meeting leads to tragic results, Lilith is hungry for revenge.

My Thoughts:

Now, while we're on the subject of vampire-inspired teen lit, it suddenly occured to me (yup, while typing about Blue Bloods away) that I've come across another wannabe vampire book hit in the past. What's with the wannabe you ask? Read on... With its (very) attractive cover and promising back synopsis, the book is NOTHING like Blue Bloods. The only similarity of the two series is that both are about priviledged young vampires. But strictly speaking, that is where the comparison should stop. Period. Whether or not the author has heard of BB before, her take on the 'priviledged young vampires' is flat and boring. It's quite disturbing that I can't even remember the main story of the book, after only 20 minutes of finishing it. The 'new vampire world' that the author tried to introduce is rather confusing and there is minimal action that can keep you (or me) interested in reading on. I really hate to say this (cuz I do understand how it feels when people say these things about your work) but the book appeared like some bad imitation of BB. Sorry!

My Ratings: * *
