Manga Review: Skip Beat
SKIP BEAT
By: Yoshiki Nakamura

The Story:

The manga is about Kyoko Mogami, a wistful yet cheery sixteen year-old girl who loves her childhood friend, Shotaro, but is cruelly betrayed and thus seeks revenge against him. Shotaro, not wishing to take over his parents' inn, becomes bored of living in Kyoto and decides to move to Tokyo to pursue a career in music. One day, however, as Kyoko brings Sho his lunch at a company building, she overhears Shotaro complaining bad things about her to his manager. And unlike other heroines in the same situation, Kyoko doesn't shed many tears when she learns that Sho thinks she's only good for housekeeping. Instead, her "Pandora's box" opens and she vows vengeance on Sho.

My Thoughts:

After my self-enforced 'exile' from all things anime & manga for a while, I'm finally back! Not that anyone notice anyway right? Huhuhu... Anyway, I was reading this manga (not aware that there's actually an anime version of it out in stores) and was fully expecting some melodramatic sobbed story of a girl trying to make it big in the Japanese entertainment industry. And although the latter is true, the storyline however surprised me. Now here's a heroine worthy of our admiration. Instead of crying her eyes out and lost the will to live, Kyoko instead pull herself together almost instantly (despite her heartbreak of course) and moved on.. to become more successful than her ex-boyfriend! I really can't get enough of this unexpected and hilarious manga. Th graphics are pretty standard but the story is really something else. Really looking forward for the next volume to come along...
