LA PETITE FOURBy: Regina Scott
The Story:
Lady Emily Southwell and her three friends, Priscilla Tate and Daphne and Ariadne Courdebas, are known as La Petite Four because they are always together like cakes on a plate. They are determined that someday the world will speak in reverent tones of the year they made their debuts in London Society, starting with an elaborate ball. Lady Emily is equally determined to take her rightful place among the famous artists of the Royal Society for the Beaux Arts. That is, until Lord Robert Townsend shows up intending to marry her and whisk her off into the countryside. What can the fellow be thinking! It's up to La Petite Four to discover whether Lord Robert has something more up his sleeve other than a nicely muscled arm.
My Thoughts:
Like everyone else reading this book, my expectation was high. This is (to me) suppose to bring something different to the YA genre books. Instead I found myself disliking and annoyed at the lead character from the start. How do you conclude that someone is a bad person without even meeting the said person? Well, apparently Lady Emily think her fiance is just because she didn't want to get married early & have this 'dream' of becoming an artist. The self-centered character then proceed to drag her friends to a never-ending (well, eventually it did of course) chase all about town just to prove that her assumptions were correct. The book pretty much centers around 2 things only, the guy chasing and the obsession with their coming out ball. Sure, we may not understand the importance of such things to a 'high society debutante' especially years ago but I was hoping for something more. Honestly, nothing surprising happened in the end of the story cuz it became so obvious that it kinda frustrates me a bit. And I never thought I can be like that from reading a book...
My Ratings: * * (at least the cover is pretty)
